Julie Porteous is delighted to have been invited to work as a classifier at the 2020 Invictus Games which will take place in Holland. Prior to the games itself Julie will travel to London for training in July and then complete three trips within Europe to meet and classify athletes who have been selected to represent their country at the games.
The classification process allows athletes to compete with others who have comparable impairments, such as Cerebral Palsy, traumatic brain injury or amputation. Meaning athletic skill, dedication to training and motivation are the deciding factors when it comes to medals.
Julie was selected for the games, following her work with the British cycling team as a senior national classifier. Julie regularly travels to velodromes within the UK to assess upcoming athletes with the potential to compete nationally or internationally with the British Paralympic team.
