International classification training

In Jan of 2020 Julie was given the fantastic opportunity to travel to Milton in Canada to attend the world para track cycling championships to train as an international classifier. Julie travelled out with 2 other members of the British cycling classification team, this was a fantastic opportunity to progress Julie's clinical knowledge and meet other classifiers from all over the world.

Julie has worked as a national classifier with British cycling since Jan 2015, during the classification process Julie is responsible for first ensuing athletes are eligible to compete as a para athlete and secondly to determine what class that athlete fits into. The underlying impairment can be a mix of either neurological or orthopaedic injury. This is a highly complex process that requires great team working with other members of the classification team and excellent communication skills to ensure the athlete understands the process.
